One more quick story from the weekend, which is fitting.

During a quiet moment amidst the fun, my sister Jill was taking pictures of the kids.  Noting that some of the good ones will end up on her blog, my Dad remarked how much he enjoyed her blog and the photos she posts. Then, in the direct, simple way that characterizes so much of his accurate commentary on life, he turned to me and said,

“She posts more than you.”

Yesterday we were driving back from Nashville, TN, after a tremendous weekend with my family while visiting my sister.  I will try to write more about that later, when time permits.  I do have time to share this gem, though.

We drove north and crossed the Ohio River from Louisville into Indiana.  We drove because we found this more efficient than fording the River.  Anyway, a few minutes later Maggie asked “are we in Indiana now?”  I replied that we were to which Mags replied, “I thought so, there are lots of signs selling fireworks.”

While we were eating dinner tonight, Jimmy was telling a story about movies. While the details are not important, the way he told it was, well, interesting.

He said, "so, I was watching a commercial for Karate Kid and …wait a second [getting out of his seat], lost a tooth…"

He got up and pulled out a molar and set it on the counter and continued, "it doesn’t look as good as the original."

The Boy can pretty nonchalant sometimes.

The Boy is spending the week with my parents, and today they went to see my Grandma.  I just received a communiqué updating me on this visit.  I’ve reprinted it below with his permission.

well when we got home from Great Grandma’s I obviously asked “What’s for dinner?”  Grandma’s response was “how about you go practice your typing skills?” I’m finally out of computers [which is the modern version of the ‘typing’ class I took when Smith-Coronas were still in use] but she said it would be “Good Exercise”.

So we got up at 8 o’clock. Went to Great Grandma’s. We had lunch. I downed a mountain dew ( or two). We talked and then hit the road. And here we are. So that was my day and my writing lesson.

Yesterday the girls went the Zoo as part of their Summer Day Camp. At least that is what I gathered after having a few hours to digest what happened immediately after I arrived home from work last night. As I entered the door, Maggie and Annie ran to me and each began to talk. Well, “talk” isn’t necessarily accurate; it was more sudden, like one holding her breath for minutes and then exhaling in an explosive release.

The transcription would read something like this…

“Girls, girls. One second. Do you think you could take me to the Zoo this summer, and show me what you saw today?”

[wide-eyed, looking at each other, then answering in unison]: “Yes!”

And with that, I stepped into the house from the garage and closed the door.

Nick and Liza (the Guppy versions) are still alive and well. All efforts to over-feed them are being successfully thwarted. Be assured that they are being closely managed by Maggie. These two guppies are probably receiving more care and attention than members of the royal family.

Jimmy: "Did the Blackhawks win? It was 3-3 when I went to bed."

L&T: "Nope, they lost in overtime."

Maggie: "What does overtime mean?"

Annie: "Maggie, remember the Packers played the Cardinals? And it was 44 to 44 in regulation. And then there was a coin toss because they didn’t have a winner yet? And the Packers got the ball but then the Cardinals won and the Packers lost? That’s overtime."
